The mission of Alternative House is to facilitate the creation of a society in which violence and oppression will no longer exist. As a means to this end, we offer access to shelter, support, children’s programming, legal, housing, and community advocacy for all victims of domestic violence (and their children) who seek our help.
We are committed to the empowerment of all victims toward self-sufficiency. We do not discriminate against any race, class, culture, age group or sexual orientation. In addition, we provide community education and support to reform societal attitudes that permit violence and oppression against anyone.
COVID-19 Agency Update
Despite the hardships COVID-19 has brought to us, Alternative House will continue to provide critical services for the individuals and families we serve.
Here are some of the precautionary measures we are taking to keep our clients and employees safe:
Cancelled all community based programs
Suspending visits at our Children's Supervised Visitation Center
Cleaning frequently touched areas multiple times a day
Bringing over supplies for the individuals and families in our shelter and residences so they don't have to leave the house
Encouraging employees to stay home if they are feeling sick
Practicing social distancing
Suspending any volunteer and intern interviews (we still review applications, but no interviews at this time)
For additional information about COVID-19, visit the Center for Disease Control’s website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.
If you can still support us during this time, we are in dire need of:
Market Basket gift cards, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, paper towels, Lysol spray, toilet paper, canned vegetables/soups.
If you think you can provide any of this, please call us at: 978-937-5777 between 9am-3pm. We can make arrangements to have these items dropped off. If you can make a donation during these very difficult times, it would be greatly appreciated and you can do so through our website or PayPal link.
We thank all of you for your continued support!
